Face Scrub

2 MIN READ

This face scrub is creamy and cleansing, you can use it 2-3 times a week. It is a combination of cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing ingredients. I usually add oils and butters to my face wash, since I prefer moisturizing my face while I clean it. This face scrub has jojoba oil and shea butter which are very luxurious and feel great on the skin.

Ingredients:

Phase A

  • 10 gr SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate)
  • 10 gr Cocamidopropyl Betaine
  • 5.5 gr Decyl glucoside

Phase B

  • 3 gr Shea butter
  • 4 gr Jojoba oil
  • 3.5 gr Emulsifying wax
  • 3 gr Cetyl alcohol
  • 3 gr Stearic Acid

Phase C

  • 41.5 gr Distilled water
  • 0.5 gr Allantoin

Phase D

  • 1 gr Rosemary extract
  • 2 gr Salicylic Acid
  • 2 gr Malva flower extract
  • 1 gr preservative (cosgard)

Phase E

  • 10 gr walnut powder

Method:

  1. In a heat resistant beaker, place all ingredients from phase A, the solid surfactant will dissolve slowly while stirring gently.

  1. Check the PH level of the product by adding 1gr of product to 9gr of distilled water, and mix them. With the ingredients I’ve used the PH level was 5. If the PH level is more than 6 you can lower it by using lactic acid or citric acid solution. Check this post on how to adjust PH level.

  1. Add the walnut powder and combine until you have a homogenous mixture.

Notes:

  • If you don’t have Allantoin you can replace it with DL panthenol or just skip it and add 0.5gr of water to replace it.

  • If you want to use other oils you can replace the jojoba oil with sweet almond oil, avocado oil, hazelnut oil, or hemp oil.

  • You can replace the Shea butter with Mango butter.

  • If you don’t want to add additives such as extracts you can skip them and replace the amount with distilled water or aloe vera juice, which will be added in phase C. In wash-off products the use of additives is less effective than in stay-on products, because the product will only be in contact on your skin for a short time (compared to stay-in products, which allow our skin to absorb all the ingredients).

  • It is important to check the PH and adjust it if necessary, especially when you change some of the ingredients, make sure your face scrub is 5.5-6 PH level.

  • Check your suppliers instructions if you are using different preservatives, make sure your preservative is suitable for this PH level and if you need to adjust the amount, calculate before starting to make sure your product is preserved correctly. Usually natural preservatives will give 3-4 months shelf life to the product.
